SHATTERED GLOBE MISSION
Dedicated to the philosophy of ensemble, it is the mission of Shattered Globe Theatre to dissect, challenge, and revel in the American experiment; inspire social discourse by raising questions rather than espousing philosophy; stimulate artistic growth for and broaden the perspectives of both artist and audience; and push the boundaries of excellence in ensemble theatre. To this end, Shattered Globe Theatre brings its audiences fresh renditions of classic works and premiereproductions that celebrate new voices and innovative viewpoints.
SHATTERED GLOBE HISTORY
Founded in 1991, SHATTERED GLOBE THEATRE was born when a small group of Chicago theatre artists joined forces to stage a single production—Adam Langer's Backstage Pass. Inspired by the positive reception of the show and the powerful dynamic experienced in their collaboration, the actors formed Shattered Globe and took up residence in a tiny storefront at 2856 N. Halsted Street. Since that time, Shattered Globe has produced nearly 60 plays, garnering 42 Jeff Award wins and the acclaim of critics and audiences alike for such productions as Judgment at Nuremberg, Coyote on a Fence, High Life, Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?, The Manchurian Candidate and, most recently, The House of Blue Leaves and Dealer's Choice. SGT presents an eclectic mix of shows that speak to our times and inspire social discourse, including world premieres by some of Chicago's most promising playwrights, Chicago premieres of works by national and international writers, and new takes on some of America's best-loved classics. The company remained in its original storefront until 1999 and is now a resident company of the Greenhouse. Theater Center.
