Shattered Globe Theatre: The S*G*Teaser
April 3, 2006

Jeff Recommended Dealer's Choice Comes Up Aces with Critics, Audiences.

Critics and audiences alike are proclaiming Dealer's Choice one of the best shows in Chicago. Join our British blokes at the poker table and see what all the fuss is about!

"I'll lay my cards right on the table with this one," says Hedy Weiss of the Chicago Sun-Times. "Shattered Globe's production is sensational...It has some of the finest writing, most riveting acting and ultra-sleek direction to be found on any stage at the moment. And coming directly on the heels on the company's superb revival of The House of Blue Leaves, it is just added proof that Shattered Globe is on a roll."

Chicago Tribune critic Kerry Reid declares that, "Steve Scott's ensemble delivers the kind of lived-in performances that convince you that these men have been working together for years."

"Highly Recommended!" says the Chicago Reader's Lawrence Bommer. "Patrick Marber's taut, generous British drama is fertile ground for both kinetic ensemble work and bravura solo turns, opportunities that Shattered Globe Theatre fully exploits. Six poker players, whether sharks or marks, reveal their hands in Steve Scott's crackling revival."

Poker Term of the Week

Poker School Part IV:

This week's official Dealer's Choice poker term is:

go on tilt (v.) To allow one's emotions to disrupt one's ability to play.

A note from pokertips.com:
In general, people who get upset and don't stay focused and reasonable will lose all the money they brought to the table. Poker is almost anti-human in the way it triggers emotions but rewards people who are made of stone.

Listen for it in the show:

MUGSY: Calling for the value.

FRANKIE: You tilty bastard.

MUGSY: I'm not on tilt.

FRANKIE: You're horizontal.

MUGSY: Just for that I shall re-raise, fifteen.

Brian McCaskill and Beth Feldman

OH, YOU POKER GENIUS
Company member Brian McCaskill expresses his gratitude to volunteer poker coach Beth Feldman for sharing her expertise with
the Dealer's Choice cast.
