In the attic of a Manhattan brownstone, two long-estranged brothers meet to dispose of their deceased parents’ property. Victor is a policeman who sacrificed his education, and probably a career as a scientist, to care for their ruined, invalid father; Walter is an eminent surgeon who turned his back on the demands of family to concentrate on medicine and personal success. As the brothers negotiate the sale of the family’s heirlooms with an eccentric antiques dealer, buried resentments and latent anger come to the surface, until ultimately they must each accept the price that they have had to pay for their very different lives. The Price continues Shattered Globe Theatre’s legacy as one of Chicago’s premier producers of Arthur Miller’s work, a legacy that has included Áll My Sons—winner of five 1998 Jeff Citations including Best Production—and A View From the Bridge, recipient of three 1994 Jeff Citations including Best Production. Run time is approximately 2 hours and 15 minutes with one intermission.
